A piece from Plummo’s Timber is designed to last for generations, but because it is crafted from living, organic materials and high-grade resins, it requires a little intentional care. Follow these guidelines to ensure your wood art and furniture retain their natural luster and structural integrity.
Timber is "hygroscopic," meaning it breathes and reacts to the air around it.
Stability: Maintain a consistent indoor temperature. Avoid placing your furniture directly in front of heaters, air conditioners, or fireplaces, as extreme fluctuations can cause the wood to shrink or expand.
Sunlight: While our resins are UV-stabilized, prolonged exposure to direct, harsh sunlight can eventually alter the tone of the timber or the clarity of the resin. Position your pieces away from intense, all-day sun.
The Golden Rule: Use a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth for dusting.
Moisture: For a deeper clean, use a slightly damp (not soaking) cloth with a drop of mild, pH-neutral soap. Always wipe in the direction of the wood grain and dry immediately with a separate soft cloth.
Resin Care: Treat the resin sections like fine glass. Avoid abrasive scrubbers or harsh chemical cleaners (like bleach or ammonia), which can dull the high-gloss or satin finish over time.
Coasters & Trivets: While our finishes are durable, always use coasters for drinks and trivets for hot plates. High heat can cause "blushing" (white marks) on the timber finish or soften the resin.
Cutting Surfaces: For our artisanal chopping boards, avoid using serrated bread knives heavily in one spot. For resin-infused boards, we recommend cutting primarily on the timber sections to keep the resin glass-smooth.
Re-Oiling: If your piece has a natural oil/wax finish and begins to look "thirsty" or dull, a light application of a food-safe furniture wax or high-quality wood oil will restore its glow.
Polishing Resin: If the resin section develops fine micro-scratches over years of heavy use, it can often be buffed back to its original clarity.
Pro Tip: Never put your handcrafted timber boards or coasters in the dishwasher. The intense heat and water saturation will ruin the wood fibers and the resin bond instantly.
